| ARE THERE SUPPORT GROUPS AVAILABLE FOR PARENTS AND CHILDREN ALIKE, WHO ARE TRANSITIONING INTO A NEW FAMILY SITUATION? There are in any large metropolitan area. For the more remote areas, there is the internet which is good for anyone. ONCE THE TRANSITION HAS BEEN MADE FROM A TYPICAL NUCLEAR FAMILY TO A BLENDED FAMILY, WHAT ARE SOME GUIDELINES FAMILIES CAN FOLLOW TO KEEP THINGS RUNNING SMOOTHLY? Talk it out, support each other's decisions, and consistency. FOR THOSE MEN OR WOMEN WITH CHILDREN WHO ARE ABOUT TO REMARRY, WHEN IS IT APPROPRIATE FOR THEM TO DISCUSS THE ROLE THEY'LL PLAY IN THE NEW FAMILY? From the time they decide to marry, at least, there should be ongoing discussions about roles, discipline, loyalty, and consistency. First and foremost, the adults need to agree in advance about discipline. Who, what, when, where, and how is a good place to start with your discipline plan. There will be surprises, of course, and things that can not be anticipated. But starting early will help.
