In addition to saving you money while you own the home, the addition of renewable energy to your home will make it move valuable when you sell it. The Appraisal Institute has published articles showing a $10 to $20 increase in home value for every $1 in reduced utility costs. As more and more people become knowledgeable about the utility costs of home ownership, having renewable energy on your home makes it easier to sell. In fact, the time can easily be foreseen that mandatory costs of past utilities will be made available to every potential homeowner. In the meantime, all other things being equal, the owner of a home with renewable energy has a definite advantage in the marketplace. Back to Economics
