Men: Even married men speak of being lonely. There are two types of loneliness: social loneliness and emotional loneliness.

Men's Issues and Today's Male

Men and Loneliness

By Pat McChristie

Men suffer from emotional loneliness and social loneliness.

For the Male of Today:

From CyberParent

CyberParent received an email from Andrew which read, "It's unbelievable. I type 'loneliness+men' into a search browser, and I get your website telling me how lonely women are.

"Has it ever stopped to occur to anyone that men are lonely too?

"How come we live in a society that seems to think women are the only brunt-bearers of emotional pain?

"The very fact that their issues are addressed and I can't find a single website dealing with the issue as it pertains to men implies (to me, at least) that women are probably in a healthier emotional state than are men. Maybe, maybe not.

"Just a guess. All I can suggest is to get off your self-pitying, self-indulgent, provincial crucifixion martyr complex and deal with emotional issues in a way that can help both men AND women. For Christ's
sake, there's enough pain to go around.

And thanks for no help."

Well, CyberParent can't do much about the search engines but we can discuss loneliness from a man's point of view.

Men suffer from two forms of loneliness:
  • Social Loneliness
  • Emotional Loneliness

Social loneliness is brought on by a lack of social network. Everyone needs people for "hanging out."

Emotional loneliness is the absence of a close emotional relationship.
