The amount of energy used by American homes is way beyond sustainable. Residential energy weatherization plans take into consideration the following:

1. Improvements that can be made to building shells (thermal envelopes), the windows and doors, and the attic. In certain situations, it might also include the exterior/interior walls and the foundation,

2. Education of home owners and other occupants about energy-efficient practices. For example, no matter how well weatherized the home is, air-conditioning turned down below 78 degrees is wasting energy.
