Even when you are harvesting rainwater, you need drought-resistant landscaping natural to your area.

Why?

When your rain-harvesting cisterns are empty from lack of rain, it is likely your area will be in drought conditions and lawn watering might be restricted. 

One home in the North Central area of Texas stores what is considered about three months of rain water in above-ground cisterns. In the rain-stingy summers of 2005 and 2006, that would not have been enough water, had it not been for the drought-resistant, natural Texas landscaping.
