Biofeedback Biofeedback operates on the premise that we have the innate ability to influence the automatic functions of our bodies through the exertion of will and mind. It uses electronic monitors to enable persons to influence their own autonomic and vital bodily functions such as the beating of the heart or blood pressure. Forms of biofeedback include electromyographic biofeedback, which measures muscle tension, and thermal biofeedback, which measures skin temperature. Biofeedback has been particularly successful for learning to modify or reduce stress, relieve pain, control asthmatic attacks, recondition injured muscles, and eliminate headaches. |
